Just wondering if there's a way to have the cursor themes under 'My Cursors' list in alphabetical order in CursorFX Plus?

I run XP Home SP2 and run CursorFX Plus. When I download a new cursor it puts it in the list alphabetically.

What OS are you running? Are you running the most current update of CursorFX Plus? How are you downloading new cursors?

EDIT: I just downloaded Blue Arrow and it put it in alphabetically. Now all that means is it is working for me.

I'm XP Home SP2 as well. For the last year, I'd been using CursorXP Plus and downloaded quite a few cursors. Then I downloaded the free CursorFX and when I opened it all my cursors were there but jumbled up, not in order. I found I really missed being able to resize the cursors, so I uninstalled the free version, and purchased the plus version today. When I opened it up, all the cursors were there, but jumbled up. There seems to be an alphabetical list at the end, these seem to be new cursors designed by Stardock that I guess came with the new software. There doesn't seem to be any way to sort them. I suppose I could delete them all and then download them again. Any other suggestions?

I tried looking around for a solution but no luck...sorry.

karmat if you have both CXP and CFX installed what you might try doing is use SDC and change your cursor to default in both, then uninstall both, (don't have to uninstall the the cursors), reboot, and only install CFX. You should be able to move those cursor you had with CXP into the theme or skins folder for CFX. I wish I knew where that was, I didn't move any cursors over when I updated from CXP Plus to CFX Plus.

I am pretty sure this will work.

Do the following:

1) If CursorFX is opened and in use restore the default and close it.

2) Open explorer and go to the following subdirectory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

3) From the view tab in Explorer select arrange Icons by name and auto-arrange and close explorer.

4) Open CursorFX. Your themes should now be in alphabetical order.

On second thought this seems to only have an effect in windows and there doesn't seem to be any relevant folder type options either. My guess is this is some sort of XP system setting my folder is alphabatized even though I added them randomly. I'll keep thinking on it.

Stupid question first...How do you make one or the other the 'default'?

Stupid question first...How do you make one or the other the 'default'? Without setting a default, I've done everything suggested in #5, but still the same. I'l try uninstalling both next. Thanks for suggestions.

Hi Karmat. I've done some experimenting with what I was suggesting on my own rig and it doesn't seem to have any effect on CursorFX. My install of CursorFX is alphabetical. Why yours isn't is unknown to me. When I mentioned default in item 1) above I was referring to restoring the Windows default cursor so CursorFX would unload when closed. I also looked at Control Panel Folder Options but no joy there either. I'm unsure why you don't have an alphabeticla theme listing. Are you sure you have the latest version of CursorFX installed correctly?

If it's like SoundPackager, it's sorted by file name which may not be the name of the cursor.  Compare the two and see if you can't either rename the cursorfx file or edit the cursor file in CursorFX itself.

I uninstalled completely both programs, deleting all cursor themes. Then I installed FX. When I opened program, the only cursor themes that were there were the ones that came with it, all were in alphabetical order. Then I went and downloaded five cursors - and they start listing after the cursors that came with the program and not alphabetical - they list one after another as they are downloaded, whether I have the program opened or closed when downloaded. And yes, I believe I downloaded and installed the program properly. And then I did another update to make sure that I had the latest version, and rebooted. Now all the cursors (5) that I downloaded, that listed themselves in order of download and after the cursors that came with program - now those new downloaded cursors (5) are at the beginning between 'windows default' and the program cursors. Thanks to all who replied, any new suggestions would be appreciated. I will also enlist Stardock Support.

karmat yes I would suggest that you contact support@stardock.com.

I do have one more question for you, and it may sound crazy, but hear me out. How are you downloading the new cursors? The reason I ask that is within the CursorFX program there is a means for downloading.

Open CursorFX, click on more cursors, then click the link to WinCustomize. This should take you to the cursor gallery/library. Left click on a cursor and then click download. Then click open, it should download the cursor. It has been automatically changing to the new cursor for me. Go back into CursorFX and click on My Cursors. The new cursor should show up alphabetically.

If it doesn't then send the email to Stardock.

I hope this helps.

Philly 0381, I was downloading from WC website from my regular browser (WC browser not working properly right now), clicking on CursorFX gallery and downloading form the 1st page.

I did as you suggested...opened CursorFX, clicked on More Cursors, clicked on the link www.WinCustomize.com, an error message came up stating 'Windows cannot find 'https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=25'. Make sure you typed name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, then click Search.' But then the WC page pops up right away set at the CursorFX gallery. I clicked on a cursor, clicked download, clicked open, cursor downloaded okay, checked CursorFX and it's filed right at the bottom, not alphabetically!

So I have cursors running down the list in this order...

- Windows Default
- 5 cursors downloaded last nite, file in order of download, not alphabetically
- 13 cursors that came with the program, filed alphabetically
- 1 new cursor downloaded just now filed at the very end (so future downloads would be filed after this one)

I sent an email to Stardock, hopefully they'll be able to figure it out.

Thanks for your help.

karmat, well I'm sorry that didn't work. I'll watch this post. If you get a answer from Stardock come back and let us know if they are able to fix the problem.

Did you check the file names vs the cursor names?
on Feb 21, 2008
I uninstalled and deleted everything again. Downloaded a fresh copy. Downloaded one cursor through the program (still getting the same error message), it files at the end like before.

I went into Windows Explorer, All Users, Shared Documents, Stardock, CurorFX. The file extensions for the cursors that came with the program are .CursorFX, and the entension for the new cursor I downloaded is [1}.CurXPTheme.

Zubaz, looks like that might be the culprit as you mentioned in your replies. I tried renaming the new cursor's extension .CursorFX, but it wouldn't show up when I opened the program, so I guess you can't rename file extensions?

So the extensions are different - .CursorFX or .CurXPTheme, but the 'type' is the same - CursorFX theme. But how come for others it files alphabetically?
